The SCSC’s maritime location makes it an ideal place to conduct engineering and training exercises with live tracking of military ships and aircraft targets in the adjacent Virginia Capes Operating Areas of the Atlantic Ocean.
The AEGIS Complex provides support to AEGIS and AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Lifetime
Support Engineering, Training, In-Service Engineering, Interoperability Testing, Engineering Initiatives, and
Technical Research & Development required to maintain and upgrade the AEGIS and AEGIS BMD equipped fleet
in war ready condition and fully capable of executing its mission.
The SSD Facility provides support to Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) Lifetime Support Engineering,
SSDS Training, SSDS In-Service Engineering, Interoperability Testing, Engineering Initiatives, and Technical
Research & Development and fleet operations as an integral part of the critical path to successful engineering
development and integration of combat system upgrades in the Navy’s aircraft carrier and amphibious shipbuilding
programs and ship modernization initiatives.
Overall focus of work is to providing support services: systems engineering and analysis; mission and project operation support services; technical library support; combat systems readiness support; configuration management; program and major projects support, and meeting and program management support. These services will encompass not only the AEGIS, AEGIS BMD, SSDS, and DDG 1000 program support, but also all necessary support services for all current and future NAVSEA and PEO IWS approved program activities at Wallops Island.
